Day 1: Arriving to Buenos Aires

Explore the UNESCO World Heritage site of Peninsula Valdés. Travel 85 km with sea views on both sides to reach the reserve. With a local guide, visit Caleta Valdés to see sea elephants, then continue to Puerto Pirámides, the peninsula’s only town. From here, embark on an unforgettable whale-watching tour to see Southern Right Whales (June–December), dolphins, orcas, sea lions, and more, depending on the season. After the tour, return to Puerto Madryn for a relaxing dinner. Wildlife varies throughout the year, so let us know your travel dates and we’ll tell you what animals you might see.

Along the way, see beaches home to sea lion and elephant seal colonies. At the historic El Pedral Ranch, built in 1923, visit a Magellanic penguin colony and walk among their nests on a guided tour. Afterward, enjoy a traditional Patagonian lamb barbecue with salads, dessert, wine, and coffee. To end the day, explore the ranch on your own, relax by the pool, or enjoy tea or coffee with Welsh cake before returning to Puerto Madryn.

To start this journey, travelers will need to fly into Trelew Airport Aeropuerto Internacional Almirante Marcos A. Zar (REL), located just outside Trelew City. This airport receives domestic flights from Buenos Aires (Aeroparque Jorge Newbery – AEP) and international connections via Buenos Aires Ezeiza (EZE).

  • Arrival Flight: Traveler flies from origin city to Buenos Aires Ezeiza (EZE) or Aeroparque (AEP), then connects with a domestic flight to Trelew (REL).

  • Departure Flight: At the end of the itinerary, travelers will take a domestic flight from Trelew (REL) back to Buenos Aires (EZE/AEP) for onward international connections.
