Start your Patagonia Trekking Tour in El Calafte. We welcome you at the airport and transfer to town to check in at your accommodation. You get the rest of the day to enjoy the town and later you have your welcome dinner.
On the second day of the Patagonia Trekking Tour, the adventure begins. After breakfast, we take a 220 km drive to El Chaltén, a small, picturesque village at the foot of the Fitz Roy and Cerro Torre massif. We make a halfway stop to enjoy local pastries and hot coffee. Upon arrival in El Chaltén, we begin our trek. For the next two nights and three days in the National Park, we carry only the essentials in our packs; any items not needed are left at our office and will be waiting for us at our accommodation when we return to El Chaltén on day four.
We hike a gentle slope along the Fitz Roy trail, gaining height over the Río de las Vueltas Valley until the first viewpoints of the Fitz Roy massif, visible after a couple of hours of walking. From these viewpoints, another two hours of easy trekking through bogs and forests bring us to our Full Camp, where we are rewarded with spectacular views of the Fitz Roy spires rising dramatically from the surrounding glaciers.

Full Camps are set up early in the season, so the camp is ready upon arrival. It offers comfortable igloo-style tents for one or two guests, with insulated mats and sleeping bags. The camp also features a spacious dining tent, a kitchen tent, tables, benches or chairs, and a complete set of tableware and kitchen equipment. Sanitary facilities are latrine-style, appropriate for a rural setting.
Enjoy the stunning landscapes of this Patagonia Trekking Tour. Early in the morning, even before the first coffee, we may catch the magical moment when the first light paints Fitz Roy’s granite walls in shades of pink—an experience that alone makes the journey worthwhile. But of course, the day has much more to offer.
After breakfast, carrying only our day gear—parka, gloves, camera, water bottle, and box lunch—we follow the Fitz Roy trail up to Río Blanco, the climbers’ base camp on the mountain’s eastern flank. From there, a steep one-hour ascent takes us to one of the most spectacular viewpoints in the National Park: Laguna de los Tres. Its vivid turquoise waters rest at the foot of the massif, offering close-up views of Fitz Roy’s dramatic spires and glaciers. Each wall rises between 600 and 1,500 meters above the surrounding ice fields. Standing 3,405 meters above sea level, Fitz Roy is known as the “King of Patagonia” and is often considered one of the three most beautiful mountains on Earth, alongside Alpamayo in Peru and K2 in the Karakoram Range. We return to camp in the late afternoon.

As we approach the park, we begin to glimpse its iconic peaks—Paine Grande, the Horns, Admiral Nieto, and the Towers. Once inside the park, we take a short 1–2 hour walk to get acquainted with the landscape, the wind, and the abundant wildlife: guanacos, lesser rheas, condors, and a variety of wetland and buzzard birds, as well as colorful Patagonian flowers. Afterward, we continue by bus to our camp at the foot of the Paine Massif.
